Clint Eastwood

Clint Eastwood

I have always known who Clint Eastwood is because my dad watched his share of westerns and as I saw more and more of his movies, I learned the guy knows what to do in front of and behind the camera. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly made me want to see every movie with Clint in it (and wear a poncho) as he commanded respect and captured attention while barely breaking a sweat, making the craft of acting look easy. Clint was made for cinema and as times changed, he did too as he made a series of 5 films appearing as Harry Callahan (Dirty Harry series 1971-1988) and spoke one of the most iconic lines in movies, “Go ahead, make my day.” I wanted to grow up and be as cool and tough as any of his tough guy characters. He also was not afraid to change genres and star in more comedic films and learn the craft of film making as he got behind the camera. He starred and directed Unforgiven (1992 winning Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director, nominated for Best Actor) and Million Dollar Baby (2005 winning Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director, nominated for Best Actor). He is also an inspiration for longevity in the business, as his earliest credits are in 1955 and his most recent credit was directing Sully (2016 starring Tom Hanks).

Clint was born in San Francisco, California, USA, got into acting during college, and got his first big break in the tv show Rawhide (8 seasons 1959-1965). He then made his Man with no Name trilogy (all directed by Italian Sergio Leone 1964-1966), solidifying his international stardom and was already perfecting his speak through clenched teeth style. Coming back to America, he starred in Hang ‘Em High (1968) before starting his own production company, then starring in and directing Play Misty for Me (1971), The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), Pale Rider (1985), A Perfect World (1993 with Kevin Costner), The Bridges of Madison County (1995 with Meryl Streep), and Space Cowboys (2000 with Tommy Lee Jones). He directed Mystic River in 2003 and was nominated for Best Picture and Best Director, and the film earned actors Sean Penn and Tim Robbins each Best Actor awards (Sean for a leading role, Tim for a supporting role). Clint has steadily worked behind the camera helming Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima (both in 2006), Changeling (2008 starring Angelina Jolie), Gran Torino (he also starred in 2008), Invictus (2009 with Morgan Freeman), and American Sniper (2014 with Bradley Cooper).

Thank you and Happy Birthday Clint!
