Rick and Morty
Rick and Morty is an animated comedy show about a scientist and his grandson, and their adventures into the world of science-fiction. Co-creator Justin Roiland made a short film using the characters (a parody of Back to the Future) and later with Dan Harmon, turned the idea into a series, now playing its third season. Part domestic sitcom, the show excels at exploring the relationship between the two as well as having an adventure when they fly or teleport into another world or dimension. The two leads contrast each other well, the situations they find themselves in are literally and figuratively out of this world, and the laughs keep coming. I appreciate the show because the soundtrack sounds like a classic sci-fi and it balances laughing (for all sorts of different reasons) with thinking about some far fetched concepts, picking up where Futurama left off but certainly making a name for themselves. Co-creator Dan Harmon also produced Community (2009-2015 comedy with Joel McHale), stars in his own talk show, Harmontown (2014-2017 comedy with Spencer Crittenden), and writes and stars in Great Minds with Dan Harmon (2016 comedy series about creating clones of famous people in history and interviewing them). Co-creator and voice actor (of the 2 leads) Justin Roiland also voiced in the animated comedies Adventure Time with Finn & Jake (2011-2017, 12 episodes), Gravity Falls (2012-2015, 7 episodes), and Fish Hooks (2010-2014, 89 episodes). Also voicing in the show are Chris Parnell (Archer), Spencer Grammar (Boone: The Bounty Hunter), and Sarah Chalke (Scrubs).
