New Films November 10th
The new releases this weekend include Daddy’s Home Two, (comedy with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg) and Murder on the Orient Express, (crime mystery directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh).
Daddy’s Home Two is the sequel to 2015’s Daddy’s Home that also starred both Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as competing love interests for Linda Cardellini. This time both of their fathers are in the mix, (John Lithgow and Mel Gibson), and it takes place during the holidays. Ferrell and Wahlberg have developed their contrasting chemistry since appearing as cops in The Other Guys in 2010. All of the films pit the naturally awkward and bumbling Ferrell against the good looking and more serious Wahlberg. Writer and director Sean Anders also made the original, Horrible Bosses 2 (2014 comedy with Jason Bateman) and Sex Drive (2008 comedy Josh Zuckerman). Co-writer John Morris often works with Anders, including also Dumb and Dumber Too (2014 comedy with Jim Carrey) and We’re the Millers (2013 comedy with Jason Sudeikis). Will Ferrell was previously in The House (2017 comedy with Amy Poehler about a couple who run an illegal casino in their friend’s house) and Zoolander 2 (2016 comedy sequel about Ben Stiller’s model alter-ego). Mark Wahlberg was previously in Transformers: The Last Knight (2017 action sci-fi sequel with Anthony Hopkins, the latest film about the alien robots) and Patriot’s Day (2016 crime drama with Michelle Monaghan about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing).
Murder on the Orient Express is the latest adaptation of the novel by Agatha Christie written in 1934 and boasts an impressive ensemble cast to carry out the murder mystery set aboard a train ride. Kenneth Branagh is no stranger to both directing and acting, having recently made Cinderella (2015 Disney fantasy starring Lily James) and appeared earlier in 2017 in Dunkirk (war drama by writer/director Christopher Nolan). The screenplay is adapted by Michael Green who also co-wrote Blade Runner 2049 (2017 sci-fi thriller with Ryan Gosling, the sequel to the original starring Harrison Ford in 1982), Logan (2017 action sci-fi starring Hugh Jackman in his last outing as Wolverine), and is the co-creator of American Gods, (2017 fantasy mystery series based on the novel by Neil Gaiman). The talented ensemble cast also includes Penélope Cruz (Loving Pablo), Willem Dafoe (What Happened to Monday), Judi Dench (Victoria and Abdul), Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), Josh Gad (Marshall), Michelle Pfeiffer (Mother!), and Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens).
