Justice League

Justice League

Justice League is the latest superhero, action film from DC comics starring a team of heroes such as Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), and Aquaman (Jason Momoa). This film continues the cinematic world from last year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and this year’s Wonder Woman, (making it the 5th in the series), as the heroes see if they can work together to stop an evil they on their own could not defeat. The Justice League is a super villain and crime fighting team that first appeared in comics in 1960, 3 years before the Avengers appeared in Marvel comics, but the movie more closely follows the team as portrayed in the New 52 version (that comic line was released in 2011). Filmed mostly in the UK, with other shots in Iceland, Greece, and Los Angeles, Justice League is noticeably shorter (only one of the 5 films to be under 2 hours, not counting the 2 credit scenes) and lighter (plenty of catchphrases and decent bickering between the heroes) than recent DC films. Fans of computer animated fight scenes will have some sequences to rewatch but no one scene really stood out from the rest, the heroes putting their powers on display was meant to be enough. Zack Snyder directed the majority of the film, after previously making Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Man of Steel (2013). Joss Whedon finished the film and co-wrote with Chris Terrio, who also wrote Batman v Superman and Argo (2012 drama, all with Ben Affleck appearing). Some of the original musical themes from past DC films (Superman in 1978 and Batman in 1989) were used in this film by composer Danny Elfman who replaced Junkie XL when Whedon took over. In addition to multiple recognizable support roles, the film’s main stars include Ben Affleck (Live by Night), Gal Gadot (Keeping Up with the Joneses), Jason Momoa (Once Upon a Time in Venice), Ezra Miller (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), and Ray Fisher (only his second appearance in a film, other than a brief cameo).
