Karl Urban

Karl Urban

I first noticed Karl in The Bourne Supremacy (2004 starring Matt Damon), he was like Jason Bourne, highly skilled, good looking, and dangerous. Matt is the star of the franchise, but he needs a strong enemy to go up against, (like Clive Owen in the previous film in the series), and Karl was equal to the task (Matt). He went to toe to toe with Bruce Willis in RED (2010) and had one of the best fight scenes in the last 10 years. Being the lead in Dredd (2012) he was tough (not just the chin), played up the shooty 3D action, and was true to the source material (and anti-star behaviour), never showed his face in the film (he wore a helmet). Stealing scenes in all 3 of the Star Trek films (2009-2016), Karl appeared as Doctor “Bones” McCoy, gritting his teeth, and being the voice of reason. Karl is able to inject a level of dramatic integrity and seriousness into films while playing along with the overall fun of a film like RED or any Star Trek.

Karl Urban was born in Wellington, New Zealand, appeared in a tv show at age 8, and after high school was in tv commercials and the theatre. He appeared in multiple episodes of Hercules and Xena: Warrior Princess (1996-2001), was in 2 Lord of the Rings movies (2002-2003), 2 Riddick films (starring Vin Diesel in 2004 and 2013), and was critically acclaimed in New Zealand for his role in Out of the Blue (2006). In 2013, Karl appeared in all 13 episodes of the tv show Almost Human and in 2014 was in the film The Loft (with James Marsden). He was most recently seen in Disney’s live action remake of Pete’s Dragon (2016), and will next be seen in 4 different 2017 projects. Bent (with Sofia Vergara), Stoic (with Antonio Banderas), Thor: Ragnarok (with Chris Hemsworth), and Hangman (with Al Pacino).

Thank you and Happy Birthday Karl!
