Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana is a talented actress, she becomes unrecognizable in each role, and has very expressive eyes which she uses to great effect. I first noticed her in Star Trek (2009) as the female lead character Uhura, opposite Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine. She was tough and smart, not rolling over for the sweet talker, and she more than held her own delivering her lines with maturity and grace. Similar to her role in both Guardians of the Galaxy films (2014-2017), Zoe would not be pushed around, objectified, or reduced to a singular purpose. Most of Chris Pratt’s best moments (as well as her cinematic sister Karen Gillan’s) were in the scenes acting opposite Zoe. Saldana made her costars step up to match her intensity and performance, something she has made a habit of in her career. Disappearing into her roles, physically unrecognizable or otherwise, Zoe has the ability to change the feeling of a scene or a character with her eyes alone. They are one of her many features and talents that will give her a successful career for years to come.

Zoe was born in Passaic, New Jersey, studied ballet, and made her acting debut in the tv show Law & Order in 1999. Her first film role was in Center Stage (2000), with additional roles in Crossroads (2002 with Britney Spears), Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003 with Johnny Depp), The Terminal (2004 with Tom Hanks), Guess Who (2005 with Ashton Kutcher), and Vantage Point (2008 with Dennis Quaid). 2009 was a huge year for Zoe as she starred in the first Star Trek (appearing in sequels in 2013 and 2016), and Avatar (directed by James Cameron who is also making 3 sequels with Zoe). The following year saw Zoe in the funny action film The Losers (with Idris Elba) and she solidified her action hero status starring in the lead role of Colombiana (2011 cowritten by Luc Besson). She continued with dramatic roles in The Words (2012 with Bradley Cooper), Blood Ties (2013 with Clive Owen), Out of the Furnace (2013 with Christian Bale), Infinitely Polar Bear (2014 with Mark Ruffalo), and headlined the tv mini series Rosemary’s Baby in 2014. Saldana lent her voice to the animated film The Book of Life (2014) prior to her more dramatic roles in 2016 (Nina and Live by Night). In demand, Zoe will next be seen in Avengers: Infinity War, the action film Hummingbird, thrillers Dominion and I Kill Giants, and her voice will be heard in the animated My Little Pony: The Movie.

Thank you and Happy Birthday Zoe!
