Zach Galifianakis: Live at the Purple Onion

Zach Galifianakis: Live at the Purple Onion

I love Zach Galifianakis’ videos online “Between Two Ferns” because they are awkward and hilarious, so I wanted to see more of Zach’s stand up. In 2005 when he performed at the Purple Onion in San Francisco, his routine was recorded (the filming of which seemed a bit scrambled), and Michael Blieden directed this feature including a scene involving Zach playing his own twin brother Seth being interviewed. This show was originally produced by Netflix and I watched it on DVD. If you like Zach’s comedy, you know that he balances between rambling and dropping a punchline, and in this show he accents his show with playing a piano. Some moments were a bit tough to sit through, feeling slow paced, maybe not too many laughs, but then that is how Galifianakis sets up his jokes, and soon enough the punchline hits. Some of the language was a bit crude, the filming was distracting from Zach, and his jokes aimed at specific audience members could be found rude, but I was laughing!
