
Remembering George A. Romero
George A. Romero was born on February 4th, 1940 in The Bronx, New York, began his career in short films and commercials, and is most well known for popularizing zombie films, beginning with his first feature length production Night of the Living Dead in 1968. George passed away on July 16th at the age of 77. George also wrote, edited, and was the cinematographer on his first film and made the followup films Dawn of the Dead (1978), Day of the Dead (1985), Land of the Dead (2005), Diary of the Dead (2007), and Survival of the Dead (2009). Other films George wrote and directed include Season of the Witch (1972 horror), The Crazies (1973 horror), Martin (1978 horror), Knightriders (1981 action with Ed Harris), Creepshow (1982 horror written by Stephen King), Monkey Shines (1988 horror), The Dark Half (1993 horror, based on a Stephen King novel), and Bruiser (2000 horror). George was most recently executive producing and starring in a documentary, Into the Dark: Exploring the Horror Film (with Guillermo del Toro and John Landis) and producing Road of the Dead (returning to the zombie genre, directed by Matt Birman).
