Starlight Drive-In
Just south of Enderby in British Columbia (or about 1 hour north of Kelowna) is the Starlight Drive-In theatre. First built in 1996, operated by the same small team since 2002, the Starlight Drive-In celebrates and shows current release films with a retro flavour (I love watching the classic dancing concession treats prior to the films). This summer was my 4th time seeing a double feature outdoors with my wife, but this time I didn’t kill the battery in my vehicle leaving the interior lights on, (quick tip: putting your emergency brake on may turn these lights off). In my defence, it was a rental vehicle, and kudos to the staff on site who jumped at the chance to give me a boost (and the other 3 tourists who did the same). Films are released on a weekly basis, normally with the first film being kid friendly, and this year we saw The Emoji Movie followed by Spider-Man: Homecoming (starting tomorrow is Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie and War for the Planet of the Apes). With plenty of parking, inexpensive tickets, a full concession, and an easy radio station to tune into the Starlight Drive-In is an easy choice to have a memorable evening, complete with mountains lining the horizon line. Also the screen is huge and the picture is clear thanks to the 6000 square foot screen (15’ off the ground, 50’ high by 120’ wide) which originally came from Sherwood Park, Alberta. Due to weather and attendance, the drive-in is open approximately May-September, so plan your visit now!
