Game Night
My wife and I are big Jason Bateman fans, I just finished watching season 4 of Arrested Development, and so we saw his latest comedy Game Night. The film is about a group of friends who usually meet to play games and on a night when they decide to turn it up a notch, end up confronting what may actually be kidnapping or murder. Also starring Rachel McAdams and Kyle Chandler, Game Night is funny from start to finish, and spreads the laughs among the whole group of friends and who they encounter. McAdams and Bateman develop some chemistry as the competitive couple that most of the film centres around. As a dark comedy some of the laughs come at the expense of someone’s well being (there are violent scenes), there is plenty of adult/colorful language, and you have to enjoy pop culture references (lots of these types of jokes). Filmed in Georgia, Game Night is full of surprises and had my theatre audience laughing out loud and having fun together. Watch for the fun animated opening credits and there is a quick scene after the end credits. The film was directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein who also made the hilarious Vacation (2015 with Ed Helms and Christina Applegate). Bateman was most recently seen in Ozark (Netflix crime series) and McAdams was most recently in Disobedience (romance drama with Rachel Weisz). Watch for scene stealing moments from Lamorne MorrisĀ (love the impression!), Jesse Plemons, and Billy Magnussen.
