Jason Reitman (40), was born in Montreal, Quebec, and has been nominated for 4 Oscars including Directing Juno (2007 drama comedy about an unplanned pregnancy starring Ellen Page), and Directing, Writing, and for Best Picture for Up in the Air (2009 drama romance about a travelling businessman starring George Clooney). Most recently he directed episodes for Casual (2015-2017 drama comedy about a brother and sister living together again in their adult years), and will next release Tully (comedy about motherhood with Mackenzie Davis and Charlize Theron) and The Front Runner (drama about an American Senator involved in a love affair with Hugh Jackman). Also having birthdays today are Ciara Renée (27, Legends of Tomorrow), Gillian Jacobs (35, Love), Chris Kattan (47, Sharknado 5: Global Swarming), Trey Parker (48, South Park), Jon Favreau (51, The Jungle Book), John Lithgow (72, Trial & Error), and Michael Gambon (77, Kingsman: The Golden Circle).

The new releases this weekend include Geostorm (action thriller with Gerard Butler), Only the Brave (true story drama with Josh Brolin), The Snowman (crime horror with Michael Fassbender), and Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween (comedy horror with Tyler Perry).
Geostorm is about when satellites that control the global climate start to attack Earth and it is up to Gerard Butler to try to save humanity. Dean Devlin co-wrote and directs the film, he most recently worked on the series The Librarians (2014-2016 comedy adventure with Rebecca Romijn) and Butler was recently in A Family Man (2016 drama with Alison Brie) and London Has Fallen (2016 action with Aaron Eckhart).
Only the Brave is about a team of firefighters that risk their lives to save a town and is based on a true story. It is based on a GQ article by Sean Flynn, directed by Joseph Kosinski who last directed Oblivion (2013 action mystery with Tom Cruise), and Brolin recently was in Hail, Caesar! (2016 comedy with George Clooney) and Everest (2015 adventure with Jason Clarke).
The Snowman is about a detective (Fassbender) who looks into a case of a missing woman whose scarf is found on a spooky looking snowman. Director Tomas Alfredson last made Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011 mystery thriller with Gary Oldman) and Let the Right One In (2008 horror made in his native Sweden) and is based on the novel by Jo Nesbø. Fassbender was recently in Alien: Covenant (2017 sci-fi horror directed by Ridley Scott) and Song to Song (2017 romance drama with Rooney Mara).
Boo 2! is the sequel to last year’s Halloween film with Madea, this time taking place at a haunted campground. Tyler Perry writes, directs, and stars, who last released Madea on the Run earlier in 2017, and keeps busy with 3 drama shows he created, The Haves and the Have Nots, If Loving You Is Wrong, and Too Close to Home.
