In Theatres

The new releases this weekend include Thor: Ragnarok (action adventure with Chris Hemsworth) and A Bad Moms Christmas (comedy with Mila Kunis).

Thor: Ragnarok is the third part of Marvel’s Thor series and is at least the 5th feature length outing for Hemsworth as the hammer swinging god, which also includes The Avengers films. This time he is up against his fellow Avenger Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and new villain Hela (Cate Blanchett). Director Taika Waititi previously made What We Do in the Shadows (2014 comedy horror with Jermaine Clement) and Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016 adventure comedy with Sam Neill). The film is written by Eric Pearson (Agent Carter), Craig Kyle (Iron Man: Armored Adventures), and Christopher Yost (Star Wars: Rebels). Chris Hemsworth is no stranger to action, as he was previously in Ghostbusters (2016 fantasy with Melissa McCarthy), The Huntsman: Winter’s War (2016 adventure with Jessica Chastain), and In the Heart of the Sea (2015 adventure with Cillian Murphy).

A Bad Moms Christmas is the (early) festive sequel to Bad Moms released in 2016, and both comedies star Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn. This time the trio have to contend with their own mothers, (Cheryl Hines, Christine Baranski, and Susan Sarandon) during the holidays. Both films were written and directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore who also created the series Mixology (2013-2014 comedy about 10 folks trying to find love one night), and they also wrote the comedies The Hangover (2009 with Zach Galifianakis) and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009 with Matthew McConaughey). Mila Kunis was previously in Jupiter Ascending (2015 sci-fi adventure with Channing Tatum), Kristen Bell is currently starring in The Good Place (2016-2018 comedy series with Ted Danson), and Kathryn Hahn was recently in the series I Love Dick (2016-2017 comedy series with Kevin Bacon).
