Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok, the third in the series starring Chris Hemsworth, is an action adventure about Thor being trapped on a gladiatorial planet while his homeland of Asgard is threatened by the arrival of a new villain, Hela (played by Cate Blanchett). In his now fifth feature length outing as the Marvel god Thor, Hemsworth is given more things to do, including the chance to interact (and improvise dialogue, about 80% of all dialogue was) with many characters new and old, and develops a more fleshed out (and more consistently funnier) character than in the team-up Avengers films. The action pieces and changes of scenery happen often, like a good film based on a similar paced action comic book should be, and allow for a vibrantly colored film to capture your attention (much like the posters made for the film). It has a fun spirit from start to finish, gives the varied cast each their moment to shine (watch for Tessa Thompson as a face painted survivor), and has plenty of surprises, (also 2 post credit scenes). The film is rated PG (for the usual super-hero action), was filmed primarily in Australia (Hemsworth’s home country), and is directed by Taika Waititi (who is from New Zealand). He also does the voice for the rock looking character Korg, and previously made the comedies What We Do in the Shadows (2014 horror with Jermaine Clement about a family of vampires) and Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016 adventure with Sam Neill about a national manhunt for a missing kid and his uncle). The film is written by Eric Pearson (Agent Carter), Craig Kyle (Iron Man: Armored Adventures), and Christopher Yost (Star Wars: Rebels). Chris Hemsworth was previously in The Huntsman: Winter’s War (2016 adventure with Jessica Chastain), In the Heart of the Sea (2015 adventure with Cillian Murphy), and will next be in 12 Strong (action drama about the first Special Forces team deployed to Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks), Avengers: Infinity War (again as Thor), Bad Times at the El Royale (thriller with Jeff Bridges set in the 1960s in California), and another Star Trek sequel.
