Hugh Jackman & New Films in Theatres
Hugh Jackman
Hugh Jackman turns 49 today. He was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, got his first acting credit for Law of the Land (1994 crime drama series), his first film was Paperback Hero (1999 rom-com with Claudia Karvan), was nominated for a Best Leading Actor Oscar for Les Misérables (2012 musical with Anne Hathaway), and is most known for portraying Wolverine in 9 films from X-Men to Logan (2000-2017). Getting his start in Australian tv series, Jackman largely grew his exposure with his performance of the raging mutant with a soft side, which then allowed him to choose his roles over the years by balancing rom-coms with sci-fi adventures. He appeared in Swordfish (2001 action with John Travolta), Kate & Leopold (2001 rom-com with Meg Ryan), Van Helsing (2004 fantasy with Kate Beckinsale), Scoop (2006 mystery with Scarlett Johansson), The Fountain (2006 sci-fi with Rachel Weisz), The Prestige (2006 mystery with Christian Bale), Australia (2008 romance with Nicole Kidman), Real Steel (2011 action with Evangeline Lilly), Prisoners (2013 drama with Jake Gyllenhaal), Chappie (2015 action with Dev Patel), Pan (2015 adventure with Levi Miller), and Eddie the Eagle (2016 dramedy with Taron Egerton). Having a wonderful voice has also helped keep Jackman working lending his voice to Flushed Away (2006), Happy Feet (2006), and Rise of the Guardians (2012). Look for Jackman to appear next in The Greatest Showman (drama musical as P.T. Barnum), Broadway 4D (musical co-directed by Bryan Singer), and The Front Runner (drama with Vera Farmiga).

The new releases this weekend include The Foreigner (action thriller with Jackie Chan) and Happy Death Day (horror mystery with Jessica Rothe). The Foreigner is about a seemingly calm businessman (Chan, who again brings his martial arts to the screen) who seeks justice for the death of his daughter and has difficulty getting support from a government official played by Pierce Brosnan. Directed by Martin Campbell (who also made Goldeneye with Brosnan in 1995, and Casino Royale in 2006 with Daniel Craig), and is based on the novel “The Chinaman” by Stephen Leather. Happy Death Day is about a college student (Rothe who was recently in La La Land) who relives the day she is murdered (think Groundhog Day with Bill Murray, 1993) and tries to figure out who the killer is. Directed by Christopher Landon (Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, 2015 horror comedy) and is written by Scott Lobdell (Mosaic, 2007 animated adventure).
